If you are one of the thousands of mums-to-be who choose to work whilst pregnant, here are some tips to keep you and your baby safe, healthy and comfortable whilst remaining productive at work.
Having a baby growing inside you is no small feat, as your body is constantly at work to support the both of you. As such, indulge in healthy food that are rich in iron and protein such as red meats, leafy greens, beans and cereals to keep your iron and energy levels up. Drink lots of fluids and take short but frequent breaks throughout the work day.
Keeping nausea at bay
Avoid food and drinks (or smells) that can trigger nausea. Keep a good stock of crackers or other bland food on hand to help ease the sensation. Alternatively, try snacking on ginger or make yourself a hot ginger tea.
Mind your posture
With a growing tummy, even sitting can become uncomfortable. As such, request for an adjustable chair with good support for your lower back. Remember to always bend your knees and keep your back straight when lifting items (nothing heavy!). If possible, take short, frequent breaks for a quick walkabout around your office to boost circulation and ease muscle tension after all that sitting.
In your third trimester, consider starting your maternity leave at least one or two weeks before your due date. This gives you the time to enjoy and fully focus on the last moments of this wonderful journey before entering yet another delightful phase of motherhood!
