Pregnancy is the time for you to take care of yourself and relax more. However, if you feel like you have lots more energy to burn or are looking to take up something new, here are some activities you should avoid whilst expecting.
Heavy training
If you have been lifting heavy weights as part of your physical training, avoid doing so when pregnant. Lifting heavy objects adds to the pressure on your pelvis and back, which in turn increases the risk of you developing back and hip aches. Also, it may lead to a prolapse – a condition where the uterus falls into the vagina.
Steam or sauna
Going for a steam or sauna session may be relaxing but it is not advisable when you’re pregnant. Amongst others, such high temperatures can lead to overheating and dehydration, and can even cause you to faint.
Roller coasters
If you love amusement park rides, it’s best that you wait until after delivery to get your adrenaline pumping. Roller coasters and similar rides have forceful take-offs and landings, which can cause harm to your baby.
Some Yoga exercises
Yoga stretching, twisting and doing backbends are wonderful exercises as they help relax tense muscles. However, opt for pre-natal Yoga classes when expecting as they are specifically tailored to give you maximum benefit without harming your baby.
